Arkansas Razorbacks 2024 Football Season Preview

By: Mason Wendler

Welcome Razorback fans! As we gear up for the 2024 football season, it's time to break down our schedule and predict how the Hogs will fare this year. From non-conference games to tough SEC matchups, here's a look at what we can expect. I believe the success of this season will largely depend on the impact of new addition Bobby Petrino and the implementation of his offense.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff

Let's be honest, there's not much to discuss about Arkansas-Pine Bluff. This should be a straightforward win for the Razorbacks. If we lose this game, it might be best to pack things up and skip the rest of the season. Start off with a solid 1-0.

Oklahoma State

This is our first real test of the season. Our defense will need to step up against a capable Oklahoma State team. Offensively, I believe Taylen Green and Ja'Quinden Jackson will shine against a Big 12 defense with a dynamic run game between the two. If our defense can contain Ollie Gordon, Oklahoma State's biggest playmaker, we should come out on top. Record: 2-0.

UAB

Another game to build confidence. We must avoid overconfidence, but this should be another win for the Razorbacks. We go 3-0.

Auburn

Auburn might not be as formidable as in previous years. Last season, we were already worn down by the time we faced them. This year, with momentum on our side, we should emerge victorious as we kick off SEC play. Record: 4-0.

Texas A&M

Now, it gets tricky. Texas A&M is always tough, especially with an up-and-coming coach and a returning quarterback. They did lose some key players, including receiver Evan Stewart, but their recruitment remains strong. This game could go either way, depending on our offensive efficiency. I'll call this a loss for now. Record: 4-1.

Tennessee

A home game against Tennessee, who will likely be coming off their first loss of the season to Oklahoma. This will be an emotional game for both teams. With home-field advantage and a fairly even matchup, I think we can squeeze out a win. Record: 5-1.

LSU

LSU might be overrated this year, especially if they don't improve their defense. They've lost key players like Jayden Daniels and their top two receivers. If our offense can focus on neutralizing Harold Perkins, we should be able to move the ball effectively. This game could be ours. Record: 6-1.

Mississippi State

I don't even want to talk about this one. If we lose to Mississippi State, it likely means we've struggled in other games too. Let's mark this as a win. Record: 7-1.

Ole Miss

Here's where things get challenging. Ole Miss is a tough team, even without Quinshon Judkins. Ulysses Bentley will step up, and Jaxson Dart is a solid quarterback. They have a decent defense as well with a former hog Chris Pooh Paul becoming a new addition to the LB core. We'll need to play exceptionally well to win, but I give Ole Miss the edge. Record: 7-2.

Texas

Texas is a powerhouse this year with a chance to win the SEC. They have returning talent and strong recruits from the transfer portal. Beating them will require perfection on our part. I don't see it happening. Record: 7-3.

Louisiana Tech

Coming off a two-game losing streak, we should take out our frustration on Louisiana Tech and secure a decisive victory. Record: 8-3.

Missouri

Missouri is a great team with a returning quarterback, one of the best wide receivers, and a solid defense. It will be tough to beat Missouri with them leading the battle line rivalry series 10-4 and also stealing some of Arkansas top in state recruits. This game will hinge on our defense's ability to stop their offense. I give Missouri the slight edge in this matchup. Final regular season record: 8-4.

Bowl Bound

With an 8-4 record, the Razorbacks are bowl-bound. It’s been an exciting season with ups and downs, but we’ve shown resilience and determination. Here's to hoping for a strong finish in our bowl game and building on this season's successes. If the offense is efficient, I can see us achieving 9 or even 10 wins this season.

Woo Pig Sooie! Let's go Hogs!
